Press Release 26th Jujy 2011
- Droitwich Waterways Trust Launched -
Now that the Droitwich canals have been opened, the aims of the Droitwich Canals Trust (DCT) have been fulfilled. Following the annual general meeting of the trust on Thursday 21st July, the Droitwich Waterways (Pamela May) Trust was launched to carry on the work of protecting and promoting the canals.
The Trust will continue to run the charitable trip boat, the Pamela May. The boat was transferred from the Pamela may Trust to DCT in 2005. The original Pamela May Trust was established by Bernard Clements in 1994 to provide outings for residents in rest homes and other disabled and less privileged members of society. DCT has been providing trips along the Barge Canal from Kidderminster Road to Ladywood.
The Directors of the new Droitwich Waterways (Pamela May) Trust: are Pam Davey, Sandy Laird, Margaret Rowley and Fran Thomas.
Chairman Cllr Pam Davey said “Already there are a great number of boats using the newly opened canals, together with many walkers and cyclists. We aim to ensure that everyone benefits from the investment which has enabled the reopening of this very attractive addition to the National canal network.”
The Directors are actively recruiting patrons to support its work, and are organising training courses for the volunteer crew of the Pamela May. Bookings are now being taken for next spring.
